WINEMAKERS TASTING NOTES AND COMMENTSWe're extremely proud of this, our premier Chardonnay release. This wine is a tremendously complex, layered, Reserve style Chardonnay that interweaves rich and ripe California fruit with Burgundian winemaking complexity. Classic Alexander Valley Chardonnay flavors of fresh and baked apple and pear are enlivened with Wente Clone high tones of citrus and tropical fruit such as pomelo and star fruit. Embracing, expanding and lengthening this core of delicious fruit are multiple layers of sophisticated French oak flavors and textures such as the creamy nuttiness and white spice of nougat, and the subtle yeastiness of freshly baked pie crust. The over-all impression is of a rich, round and ripe but structured California Chardonnay with Burgundian aspirations: a Chardonnay that opens and expands with time in the glass and a gradual warming to cellar temperature (please don't serve straight from the fridge!), and will repay contemplative enjoyment either on its own, or with complex preparations of fish or fowl."
